When everyone else is enjoying long holidays during high-demand periods like Diwali, Black Friday, Christmas, or even New Year’s, guess who is still on the clock? 𝗜𝗧!

Reflecting from 𝙢𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚… Diwali and tech incidents love staying hand in hand for me! My Diwali ‘tradition’ over the past few years has been more about tech firecrackers.

Diwali holidays’ ironic tradition for me 🙃 ->

2023 – The in-house CRM app decided to celebrate by crashing right on Diwali day!
2022 – While everyone else was preparing for sweets, I was preparing for S/4 Hana go-live hyper care and post go-live sustainment framework.
2021 – Regional finance period close had a major hiccup. SAP ERP data was not budging to the BPC system. The only late-night fireworks I saw were in the major incident management bridge along with few more team-mates like me!
2020 – The only ‘safe’ window business gave us for an on-prem to co-lo move was during Diwali. Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like a full-scale lift and shift!
2019 – Network went down at a manufacturing facility just as Diwali morning rolled in.

So, what I talk here is about ensuring tech stability over long holiday seasons. It means gearing up with demand predictions, emergency response plans, redundancy measures, ensuring people availability and clear coordination with on-call teams. For business, these are high-demand times, it is about expecting the unexpected and planning accordingly.

It is not luck that keeps the tech running when everyone else is on holiday. Seamless tech during the holidays is also not a magic. It is a lot of preparation! Because when IT does it right, the biggest fireworks are the ones we 𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙞𝙙!
