When it comes to aligning the IT strategy with business goals, we always end up thinking about those long presentations filled with charts, buzzwords, and a dash of wishful thinking. Let us be real. Most tech stories are mind-numbingly boring ‘OR’ they sound like sleeping pills with PowerPoint to the non-Tech savvy business leaders and the stakeholders.

This is not that story, however.

During modernizing one of the customer-facing technology stacks, the business goal was to enhance customer experience through faster application performance, seamless scalability, and cost–efficiency.

Now, the textbook IT strategy would have been to 1) ramp up infrastructure by adding more compute power (𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰, 𝘣𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴!) 2) rebuild everything from scratch (𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰, 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘹 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦!), or 3) Lean heavily on existing architectures without questioning their relevance (𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘰, 𝘥𝘦𝘫𝘢 𝘷𝘶!)

But we reimagined how we could achieve these goals with less cost, less complexity, and fewer resources, all while achieving more.

One strategy adapted in cloud computing was to migrate from x86 to Arm based architecture with the AWS Graviton based stacks. Graviton is energy efficient powerhouses designed to crunch workloads with minimal power consumption. Pay less, leverage more!

Then we did something crazy. We cut 75% of objects in S3. Billions down to millions. From insane lots of Terabytes down to just few Terabytes. This literally turned the cluttered data chaos into a streamlined, high-performance system. And yes, No impact to business. (𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵? 𝘏𝘦𝘺, 𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺)😉

As a result, the overall performance was accelerated with a better customer experience. This drove measurable business value straight to the bottom line. And no, it did not require a 50-slide ppt deck to make it happen. Just a strategy-driven execution with measurable outcomes.

This is all about reimagining how technology can actually drive business forward. How often do you settle for complexity in the name of technology rather than striving for simplicity with higher impact?
